Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * AMAZING TRANSFORMATION IN MY DOG, INCREDIBLE COMPANY TO DEAL WITH! ...
It's important to understand that 1) your dog needs to be trained well enough to know what he *should* be doing given a verbal or other command; and 2) you must read the instructions to be able to press the button at *precisely* the right moment -- otherwise this device can do more harm than good.

That said, my this has been a miraculous transformation. My dog knew the meaning of "come" and was pretty obedient when he was not near water, but anywhere near the beach he would be totally out of control and in the water. The only way to get him out of the water would be to wade in and grab him by the collar and drag him out.

When I got the collar, I only had to click the remote about three times, at a fairly low setting (3) before my dog understood that when I said "okay let's go" it meant he had to come out of the water and off the beach immediately. Now he behaves like he *wants* to do that as soon as I give the word -- no question about it and he's perfectly happy.

It's tempting to use this to correct other bad behaviors, but for me the main thing is that this can save your dog's life if he has a tendency to get away from you when he's off leash. Obviously it is also an ideal tool for bird training, etc. It didn't "break his spirit" or anything of the sort -- he's still as happy and goofy as he ever was, but he also is totally obedient when I tell him play time is over.

Also, my collar developed a crack - which was probably the result of bumping against a rock or a wall. I called the manufacturer and asked to send it in for (presumably paid) repair. Instead they say "oh no, we'll cover that on the warranty" and sent me out a BRAND NEW replacement unit immediately without so much as asking for a credit card number as security against return of the old unit. They didn't even ask me for a copy of my invoice. That is INCREDIBLE UNHEARD-OF customer service!

We couldn't be more happy with the Petsafe SD-400S training collar and my only regret is that I didn't buy one sooner.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - * may be too powerful ...
I give this collar high marks for quality and value compared to others in the same price range, but would encourage others to consider the same collar in it's regular output instead of this 'stubborn' model.

At level 1 neither my lab nor I can feel anything and at level 2 my lab often yelps. I got this model because my lab can be quite stubborn and very strong leash corrections didn't faze him a bit.

I think a better choice would have been the regular model.

This collar is often advertised as having 16 intensity levels, but that is misleading. The dial is numbered 1-8 and comes programmed for 8 intensity levels. It can be reprogrammed (the owners manual gives instructions and they aren't difficult) to set it for 16 levels of intensity, but the dial still reads 1-8. What happens is you give up the momentary stimulation button as it now becomes a continuous stimulation button. Also the intensity no longer matches the dial setting. At level 1 one face button is level 1 and the other is level 2. At level 2 on the dial one button is level 3 and the other level 4. A bit confusing.

I have another dog, a golden retriever, I would like to use this collar on him for a few things, but I can't as the intensity level is just too high for him.

Again, this seems to be a well built, rugged product that is a good value, but do consider that unless you have a dog that really is stubborn (meaning a high pain tolerance and hard leash corrections do not faze him) this collar may be too powerful.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * My dog loves it! ...
I've had this for a week now-- as soon as I pick it up, my dog starts dancing around excitedly because she thinks it means something fun is going to happen. Only been using it for training for two days now, and already, I feel comfortable letting my dog run loose around the property. She used to take off as soon as she saw the great outdoors, and I back up to conservation land, so there's nothing to keep her from running till the sun goes down. She still runs to say hello to every dog walking by, but comes right back when I call her. And she no longer tries to chase bikers, runners, skateboarders, or the town's construction and DOT vehicles!
She'll do anything just to hear the collar beep-- A lot of people use the beep as a correction, but I prefer to use it as a reward, occasionally the beep gets linked to a cookie, but usually just a lot of good old lovin!
My dog is 20 pounds, and after I ordered it, I was a little worried the Stubborn would be too much for her, but the first and second settings are definitely doing the trick! I go up to the third setting when the neighbors have their dogs out, and haven't had a problem yet! She's a rescue dog who has a lot of fear issues, and she's terrified of men and strangers, so this collar gives me the control I need if she gets scared. Also, she responds better to it than she did when we attempted to use a long leash to learn "come", and me physically yanking her towards me. She's taken to this collar better than I dreamed she would, and even went to one of my friends when the friend called her! She's never willingly gone to any person but me before.

Would definitely recommend this product to anyone in need of a little extra training. It does not take the place of basic obedience training, but it is a great "reminder" when you aren't at your dog's side. I've only used it for coming when called, but I think once she has that down, we might venture to "stay off the couch!!"
This collar is worth the price-- The cheaper collars usually aren't rechargeable, which is why, after a great deal of research, I went for this collar.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Petsafe SD-400S Sportdog Field Trainer, Stubborn ...
This collar is easy to use and is very effective with our Labrador. It is much easier to use than our old collar, purchased several years ago for our other dog, and the actual collar unit is smaller and less cumbersome on the dog. The battery lasts for about 3 days before needing to be re-charged. Charging the collar and hand-held unit is very simple. The only drawback is that it takes about 12 hours to charge it, since we do a lot of RVing, powered by the generator when we are away from home. It has a good range with ample settings (tone only or tone & zap, and it is nice that the collar is water-tight. I chose this collar because of the ease of use and the range that it covers.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Fantastic product ...
I've had this product for about a month now, and I think it's great! I mainly use it to walk my mini dachshund (extremely independant and stubborn breed) so he has more room to roam. I charged it fully when I first got it, and I haven't had to recharge it yet. My dog responds to level 1 and actually listens to commands now. I haven't made sure it's fully waterproof yet, but it's been fine in the rain. I also haven't tested its full range--All I know is that it works best when you hold the transmitter around head level. This product is definitely worth the money!

Cannon Fodder originally was released for the PC in 1993. This latest conversion to the Game Boy Color features new soldier and unit types, improved enemy artificial intelligence, enemy bosses, modernized gameplay, full-motion video, and cutscenes. The third-person shooter has 72 levels, some of which feature environments that are more than 20 times the size of the screen. Players use an arsenal of military hardware that includes bazookas, grenades, jeeps, tanks, and helicopters.

Battle a group of terrorist robots as one of seven characters from popular Capcom games, like Mega Man and Cammy. Other familiar characters include Charlie from Street Fighter, Arthur from Ghosts 'n' Goblins, and B.B. Hood from the DarkStalkers series. New characters include Shiva, an ex-snowboarding champion, and Simone, a fencing champion. The action-shooter gameplay contains both shooting and hand-to-hand combat, and features an isometric view. Players fly around by using "motor boots," and strategically avoid enemies' projectile attacks while counterattacking.

For saboteurs of records that sound good because of elements completely unrelated to the artist, Ashlee Simpson's sophomore effort, I Am Me, may well be a dream disc. The production is a tight-wrapped, A-type achievement and, with sounds running from hip-hop (the unstoppably infectious "L.O.V.E.") to vintage '80s (the lusty "Dancing Alone") to Synchronicity-era Sting (the energetic, pulsing "Boyfriend") to airwave-friendly ballads that sister Jessica might have choked her way through ("Catch Me When I Fall"), the music sucks you in more reliably than a bagless Dyson. But instead of Ashlee Simpson, credit for both those things - really, for the way this disc favorably insinuates itself into a listener's head overall - belongs to producer/keyboardist/bassist/guitarist John Shanks. Ardent Ashlee-ites, of course, will beg to differ, and they won't be without their points: In addition to co-writing each of these 11 songs, some of which ("Beautifully Broken," a response to her "Saturday Night Live" lip-synching debacle) are more sophisticated than others ("Burnin' Up," a Madonna-reminiscent, reggae-style romp), she sings in a voice as artfully burnished and appealing as it was on her 2004 debut. She makes you want to la la all over again, and for that, and for finding the right guy to orchestrate this acknowledgment-heavy jewel, you've got to like her. --Tammy La Gorce

You hear a lot of echoes throughout Ashlee Simpson's Autobiography, but her big-eyed, bright-smiled sister Jessica isn't behind a one of them. That'll come as no surprise to fans and anyone who has caught the "darker" Simpson sister on MTV, which is responsible for hurtling the hard-edged "Pieces of Me" onto radio playlists across the country and creating a mini frenzy over this CD's content. Stoking the gossip-fueled flames is track three, "Shadow." On it, 19-year-old Ashlee spills her childhood resentment over her sister's attention-gulping career, ending up on a conciliatory note that has the surprising effect of making the Simpson divas' drama seem believable ("Everything's cool now…and the past is in the past," she sings). But serious music fans ought not to dilly-dally with the celeb stuff and dive right in, because this disc dishes up more than a lot of us bargained for. "LaLa" revs up the unsuspecting by way of out-and-out lustiness, "Love for Me" lays on the lovelorn angst thick, and the title track is a take-no-prisoners, love-me-or-leave-me rock anthem. Rippling throughout are cunningly malleable vocals, bending here for a kittenish Gwen Stefani effect, stretching there to sound Christina Aguilera-cathartic. Sweeter moments call to mind the indie sensibilities of Jill Sobule. More than others of her reality-show insta-star ilk, Ashlee Simpson's is an autobiography that shouts, "bring on the sequel." --Tammy La Gorce
